Few days back, a friend of mine has accidently deleted quite a few recent pics from my Nokia N97 Memory Card and she was feeling pretty much disgraced about that. We recently went for an excellent trip, captured all those fun moments in the camera and yes if those memories get deleted, everyone will feel disgusted about that. It is at that time, I googled and finally found a recovery software that not only recovered ALL THE PICTURES from my memory card but also it was absolutely FREE to use as well. Amazing right?

PC Inspector Smart Recovery is just the right software that can do wonders for you. Believe me, it works perfectly fine although takes a bit of time (when I say “bit of time” that means hours and hours…) to recover all those accidently deleted pictures and files. The software is very easy to use and even if you are not a computer savvy person, you can use it without much discomfort.

PC INSPECTOR Smart Recovery works with Flash Card™, Smart Media™, SONY Memory Stick™, IBM™ Micro Drive, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital Card or any other data carrier for Digital Cameras. I have tried this software on my Phone Memory Card as well and it recovered all the pictures that got accidently deleted.

If you have unintentionally deleted or formatted pictures, videos or sound files on your data carrier or have pulled it out during a write operation, no matter – PC INSPECTOR smart recovery can easily, quickly and absolutely reliably reconstruct the lost data. It supports the following picture formats: .jpg, .amr, .tif, .bmp, .gif, Canon .crw , Fuji .raf , RICOH .raw, Olympus .orf (E-XX), Olympus .orf (C5050), Nokia 3gp, Kodak .dcr, Minolta .mrw, Nikon .nef (D1H/D1X), Nikon .nef (D2H/D2X), Nikon .nef (E5000/E5700), Sigma – Foveon .x3f, mp4, QuickTime .mov (Konica Minolta). Video files in .avi, QuickTime .mov format and audio files in .wav, .dss format can also be recovered.

A Word of Caution – If you have deleted the files by mistake and want to recover most of those, PLEASE STOP TAKING ANY MORE PICTURES from your digital camera or mobile phone. That’s because the more you write new data on your memory card, the chances of recovering old and deleted data becomes less.

Please let us know if you face any problem in using this software or if you are aware of any other better software for recovering lost data from memory cards, please share that with us in Comments Section below. Also, if you are the one among many who got benefited by this great little utility, please share your thoughts as well.  Awaiting reply…

How to Setup your own Radio Station http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/06/05/how-to-setup-your-own-radio-station/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/06/05/how-to-setup-your-own-radio-station/#comments Thu, 05 Jun 2008 11:54:12 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/06/05/how-to-setup-your-own-radio-station/ Ever thought about streaming media (audio/video) over the internet so that your friends can listen to your favorite music playlists? Well, few months before I talked about streaming audio and video over the LAN/Intranet but today I am going to discuss about setting up a Radio Station so that any one can stream audio over the internet. (You can use this technique for streaming videos or your webcam outputs as well)

Basic Requirements

1.) Window Media Encoder 9Get it from here.

2.) Music Source – You can use your CD player output or simply few audio files stored on your computer. Music source can be generated by many other means as well like MP3 player or other similar audio devices.

3.) Selected Port Forwarding by Router – This is most important. Not many of us know how to configure Router to forward the selected port. But don’t worry, I’ll provide you the detailed guide to this problem. First, you should know about your Router manufacturer name. After that, visit this page for step-by-step guides on how to setup port forwarding. (Scroll down to that page and you will see list of all possible routers. Select the name of your router and it will take you to the next page. Find the “Default Guide” link on that new page and click on it to get the detailed information.)

Initially, even I was not aware of how to forward ports but thanks to Madhur who helped me in doing this. Later on, I found the above mentioned site for learning to forward ports on all types of Routers.

Now when you are done with all basic requirements, let’s move to actually configuring our system so that we can able to successfully set up our own radio station.

Configurations

1.) Choose any Port number of your choice and program your router to forward your selected port to your main computer. I chose 2300 at my port number.

2.) Open Windows Media Encoder

3.) Select “Broadcast a live event“.

4.) Uncheck the “Video” checkbox and enable “Audio” checkbox. Now from the drop down list choose your Sound Card and click on “Next“.

5.) Select “Pull from the encoder“.

6.) Enter the Port Number you selected before. In my case its 2300 and I have programmed my router to forward the same port number. (Don’t forget this. It’s very important)

7.) Now comes another important part- “How you want to encode your audio?”

Let’s understand first what does it actually mean. The higher the bit rate, the better will be the quality of the streaming audio. But there is always a certain limit. Suppose you have a Broadband connection of 256 Kbps and you choose 135 Kbps as your desired Bit Rate. If you get 2 listeners who connect at the same time, they will occupy 270kb and your bandwidth maximum limit gets exceeded. You certainly don’t want to do that. Right?

So, its better you choose “Multiple bit rates audio (CBR)” that gives you option at the time of streaming, to select from multiple bit rates (9, 11, 13, 15 and so on) depending upon the users connected or willing to connect to your radio station.

Photobucket

8.) DO NOT select “Archive”. Leave it as it is and click on “Next”.

9.) Enter a Title, Author and other information for your Radio Station.

10.) Finally, click “Finish“.

11.) Now if you are using a CD player as an audio source, plug the output of CD player to AUX input of the streaming server computer (the BLUE jack) and start playing your music in the player.

OR, if you want the audio files from your server computer to be streamed then carry on with the following steps:-

Photobucket

  • In the Media Encoder select View -> Source Panel.
  • A small window of “Sources” should appear inside it. Click the down arrow and select “Properties…”
  • Under “Source from:” option select “File“, and then browse to the actual location of your audio file.
  • Under “At end:” option select from the drop down list “Roll over to next source“.
  • Add another source and do the same. You can add as many as you want. Just don’t forget to choose the correct “At end:” option.
  • Finally, click on “Apply”

Photobucket

12.) Click the “Start Encoding” button.

Photobucket

Your computer will now be acting as a server of streaming Radio Station.

How to Listen to your Radio Station?

Go to http://www.whatismyip.com and you will get your External IP address from there.

Now, ask you friend who want to connect to your Radio station to do the following:-

Example: - Suppose your IP is 192.166.217.134 (this should be the same IP which you get from whatsmyip.com website) and the port number you selected earlier is 2300. So the complete URL should be mms://192.166.217.134:2300/

That’s it you are done. Hope you like the tutorial. If you encounter any problem during the whole process just share it with us through comments section and I’ll try to solve those as soon as possible.

How to Mount USB Drives to a Windows Folder http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/22/how-to-mount-usb-drives-to-a-windows-folder/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/22/how-to-mount-usb-drives-to-a-windows-folder/#comments Thu, 22 May 2008 15:07:02 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/22/how-to-mount-usb-drives-to-a-windows-folder/ After a great success of my previous article about setting background images to the USB drives, here comes another USB related tutorial which I am sure many would love to try.

So many times we encounter a situation when data once deleted from a USB drives cannot be recovered back simply because the deleted data does not move into the Recycle Bin instead it is deleted permanently.

But don’t worry I got a solution to this problem. If we can mount our USBs to a windows folder then not only all deleted data can be recovered easily but also it will be lot easy to organize multiple USB drives.

Just follow the simple steps described below:-

1.) Create a folder named “USB DRIVES” in any of windows partition (Desktop is the best option).

Photobucket

2.) Next create any number of subfolders inside the main folder “USB DRIVES” and give them proper names. Suppose you want to mount two of your USB drives, so it advisable to create two subfolders with the exact name of your USB drives.

3.) Press Win+R to open the Run window or alternatively go to Start->Run.

4.) Type in the location field diskmgmt.msc and hit enter to open Disk Management.

Photobucket

5.) Select your USB drive, right click on it and select Change Drive Letter and Paths… from the menu.

6.) Click on the Add button, select Mount into the following empty NTFS folder and click on browse. Now navigate to the subfolder that you want to assign the USB drive to and confirm the process.

That’s it you are done.

Photobucket

From now on, the USB drive will be accessible from the folder “USB DRIVES” as well when it is connected to the computer.

Hope you liked the tutorial. Any feedback is whole heartedly appreciated.

P.S. – When moving data around the mounted USB in folders setup will completely move the data, not copy it to your USB device. Make sure to copy and paste if you want source data to remain on your PC.

How to Block Websites without using any Software http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/18/how-to-block-websites-without-using-any-software/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/18/how-to-block-websites-without-using-any-software/#comments Sat, 17 May 2008 20:21:16 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/18/how-to-block-websites-without-using-any-software/ Many times we need to unblock certain websites to gain access to some important stuffs. We all know many ways to do that. But how about actually learning to block one?

Have you even been in a situation when you have to block certain websites from your computer for any reason? Well, I am not sure about any body else but certainly I have been many times in such situation. Parents may also want to prevent access to certain websites on their computer so that children can’t get to them from internet.

So what’s the solution?

Aaaah… It’s very simple.

1.) Open “Run” from the start menu (or press WinKey + r). Just copy paste the following path and hit ENTER.

notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Alternately, go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc and find the file “hosts”. Open that file in Notepad.

2.) When this hosts file is opened in Notepad, at the end of the file you will see something like “127.0.0.1 localhost”.

3.) Under “127.0.0.1 localhost” just add another website URL that you want to block.

For Example:-

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.rakshitk.com
127.0.0.3 www.whoismadhur.com

4.) Make sure every time you add another website, the last digit of the address 127.0.0.x should not be the same.

Photobucket

5.) Save the file and exit.

So, here you go. Restart your browser if it is opened and changes will take place immediately.

The good thing is that no message, no pop ups nothing will be displayed when someone tries to open a blocked website. Your browser will just fail to open those websites without any error messages.

Smart way to configure Firefox address bar with Search Engines http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/16/smart-way-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/16/smart-way-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/#comments Fri, 16 May 2008 16:20:16 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/16/smart-way-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/ In my last post we have discussed about using Firefox address bar as search box. But that was just a basic level tutorial. What I am going to discuss today is a step forward to the original one.

How about utilizing all possible search engines functionality from your single Firefox address bar? At any time you can easily search Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Answers.com etc. No need to first choose your search engine type and then do the required searching.

Let’s quickly go through the steps involved for this configuration to work efficiently:-

(Mind you it’s just a 1 time configuration)

1- Choose your default Search Engine type and configure it by the method explained earlier. (I have setup Google for that)

Now we have to configure the alternative Search Engines.

2- Navigate to the first site whose search engine you want to use.

3- Right click on the text box for the search, and choose Add a Keyword for this search

Photobucket

4- In the dialog box that pops up, enter a Name and a Keyword (alias). Choose a keyword that you can remember easily

(For example: – go for Google, ya for Yahoo, wi for Wikipedia, ans for Answers.com etc.)

Photobucket

Similarly, add all other possible Search Engines that you use frequently.

How to implement it?

1- Press Alt+D to set the focus on the address bar.

2- If you want to use your Default Search Engine, just type the search terms straight away and press enter.

3- If you wish to use any other Search Engine that you have configured earlier, first type its Keyword followed by <SPACE> and then your search terms.

Example: - go rakshit khare for searching through Google, ya rakshit khare for searching through Yahoo, wi rakshit khare for searching through Wikipedia etc.

That’s it. You are done.

How to configure Firefox address bar with Search Engines http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/13/how-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/13/how-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/#comments Tue, 13 May 2008 12:53:13 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/13/how-to-configure-firefox-address-bar-with-search-engines/ Your Firefox address bar can not only be used for opening websites but also for searching as well. Yes, you can configure the Firefox address bar with various search engines like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft’s Live, and Wikipedia etc.

By default, whenever you type anything in address bar and hit enter or press the GO button, Firefox checks whether the entered string is valid address or not. If it’s a valid address Firefox tries to load corresponding site for you. Now, if the entered string is an invalid URL, it will be submitted to Google Search and search results are returned.

What if you want to change the Default search engine? Of course, Google is everybody’s first choice search but having said that it depends on person to person. Or, if you have Google Toolbar (that provides inbuilt google search box) installed then you may want to configure the address bar with some other Search Engine.

The following steps will guide you how to configure your Firefox address bar with Search Engines of your choice.

1- Open Mozilla Firefox and type in the address bar about:config.

2- Next type keyword.URL in the Filter box which is appeared after the first step is completed successfully. As you type the above text, the long list will be trimmed down to one line. (You will see only 1 entry (keyword.URL) under the Preference Name section)

3- Now right click that single entry and select modify. A box will appear. Refer the image given below.

4- Choose your Search Engine type and accordingly enter the string value of various Search Engines given below.

5- There is no 5th step.

Enjoy!!!

Photobucket

List of Various Search Engines is as follows:-

(Copy any of the below strings and paste it into the box that appear in STEP 3 above)

How to Connect two Computers over the Internet http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/07/how-to-connect-two-computers-over-the-internet/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/07/how-to-connect-two-computers-over-the-internet/#comments Wed, 07 May 2008 14:48:23 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/07/how-to-connect-two-computers-over-the-internet/ Over the months we have learned how to Stream Audio and Video over the LAN/Intranet. But today I am going to tell you how to share and connect PCs across the world then you can do anything you want just by sitting miles away from your own PC.

Few months back we have also learned the same thing through CrossLoop. This time I have come up with yet another free to use application that can totally change the way you browse the Internet.

Recently, I found a free application LogMeIn that is used to share your computer in the most secure way.

The fact that it’s free to use for multiple remote PCs makes this remote-access program instantly appealing. The program differs from its competitors in that the application runs in your Web browser. If you’re running Firefox, it asks to install a plug-in and then opens an emulator of the remote PC in a new window.

The control window gives you some standard options such as Ctrl-Alt-Del (which kills the connection) and changing the view settings, as well as tabbed access to adjust the connection setting. The 256-bit SSL encryption and dual passwords–one for the program and one for the remote PC’s log-in–are welcome protections.

How it works:-

LogMeIn takes just a minute to set up, and its automated setup wizard guides you through a few quick steps.

1.) Sign Up

Enter your email address and choose a password. The automated set up wizard guides you quickly through the process.

2.) Connect

Log into www.logmein.com, click the computer you want to access, and you’re in!

3.) Work

Control your PC as if you were sitting in front of it. Send email, run programs, open files.

Photobucket

Get LogMeIn Free

So have you ever tried this application before? What’s your take on this? Compare it with CrossLoop.

How to give your USB devices a Background Image http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/04/how-to-give-your-usb-devices-a-background-image/ http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/04/how-to-give-your-usb-devices-a-background-image/#comments Sat, 03 May 2008 19:28:25 +0000 Rakshit http://www.rakshitk.com/blog/2008/05/04/how-to-give-your-usb-devices-a-background-image/ For another useful USB tutorial on recovering deleted files from USB drives, click here.

I suppose we all have tried to give background images to our desktop folders. How about setting the same background to our USB devices (Pen drive, Portable Hard Disks etc.) as well? That background image will be seen on every computer you plug in that USB device.

It’s really a 3 step process. Let’s begin:-

1.) Copy Paste the following code in the notepad and rename that notepad file to desktop.ini (Just make sure when you paste this code, the Double Quotes are in Notepad format otherwise type the Double quotes manually from your keyboard.)

[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]

iconarea_image=“back.jpg”

iconarea_text=”0xFFFFFF”

2.) Choose any image of your choice and rename it to back.jpg

3.) Copy Paste both these files (i.e. desktop.ini and back.jpg) into your USB device and make them hidden by selecting Properties -> Hidden Files.

That’s it. You are done.

Just REFRESH your screen and you will see your image on background.

Photobucket

So, how you feel about this technique?

In this article let’s focus on how to hack passwords in Internet Explorer.

There is a utility named Asterisk Key that can be used to recover saved passwords in Internet Explorer. So many times we tend to forget our saved passwords in web browsers. The reason is simple. Once the password is saved we did not require to type them every time we sign in for any services.

So, if you tried very hard to remember your password and got fed up, just read through this article and all your problems will get solved easily.

Launch Asterisk Key and also the web pages having saved passwords. If the web page is not open, this utility will not work.

Photobucket

Now click on “Recover” button in Asterisk Key and your saved password will get visible along with all other required information.

Photobucket

That’s it. It’s very simple. What is your opinion on this great little application?
