Mouse alternative of Alt+Tab

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or get daily updates via E-mail. Thanks for visiting!

I am sure all of us will be aware of the Windows shortcut Alt+Tab. It is an application switching shortcut that means every window of opened applications can be switched easily by pressing the combination of buttons Alt+Tab.

What about if this feature is also accessible through your Mouse? I am sure it will be a lot easier and less troublesome. Isn’t it?

Thanks to CyberNet News, I just got an application that is standalone i.e. no installation needed and when you press and hold the left mouse button, and then press the right mouse button, the Alt+Tab application switcher will appear on the screen until you click on one of the icons of the windows that you want to switch to. Don’t forget to release the mouse buttons as soon as you select the window that you want to toggle.

It can also be easily set to start with Windows by placing it in your Startup folder (see picture below) located in the Start Menu. You’ll know this is running when you see the Vista-like orb in the System Tray.

For Windows XP, download here.

For Vista, download here.

What’s your take on this? Don’t you think this Alt+Tab feature is more helpful through mouse? or If you know any other similar application, do share that with us.

Good apps for XP, but I think the AERO effect is pretty good in Vista, so I use more of that.

  2. Rakshit says:

I don’t have Vista, so couldn’t able to try that. But it’s good that you shared that with us. I appreciate that.

  3. This is a very useful utility I agree. However it may cause trouble if you are using mouse “rocker gestures” for tab switching in Firefox but thanks for sharing buddy :D

  4. Rakshit says:

    You’re welcome.
By the way what is mouse “rocker gestures”?

  5. Nathaniel says:

Yeah… something like this would be cool. I’ve tried to write a script in AutoHotkey that would allow me to hold down a key and use the mouse wheel to scroll through the Alt+Tab menu but I haven’t done it. :D

  6. Rakshit says:

Nathaniel, what you are suggesting can also be a good way to replace Alt+Tab. Please tell me when you get that working.
Thanks for visiting by blog and also for your comments. Hoping to see you more on “Aarambh”.

Thanks! I am a recruiter and started to have repetitive motion strain from using ALT+TAB from going through resumes, databases, and email constantly. This is an excellent work-around.
