There is a great little instant messaging utility, Pidgin that helps to find who has blocked you in Google Talk. If you not sure how to configure Pidgin with Google Talk, I advice you to first visit this page.
Ok, now when you are aware of how to configure Pidgin to work with Google Talk, I’ll guide how to make smart use of Pidgin to identify who has blocked you on Google Talk.
It’s very simple. Just follow the steps:-
1- Log in to your Gmail account on Pidgin.
2- Go to “Buddies” -> “Show Offline Buddies“. (A person who has blocked you must be showing offline to you. So you need to make all offline friends visible)
3- Now all your contacts are visible to you. Pick any one of those.
4- Right Click on your chosen contact name and select “Get Info“.
It will show you the brief information of your contact. Now, if any of your contact has blocked you on Google Talk, you will not be able to see his/her profile.
6- Select a contact who you think may have blocked you. Again, Right Click on his/her name and select “Get Info“. You will not see anything. Not even the contact’s name.
This goes to show that this particular contact has blocked you on Google Talk and don’t want to talk to you and so it appears to be offline always.

If you are blocked then it means you are “blocked” to know any activity of your contact. You cannot find when he/she comes online and goes offline

I was on Pidgin earlier and I checked onto one of my contacts who has not been online for quite sometime.
I did as instructed, right clicked and select “Get Info” and guessed what? NO INFO! That shows that he blocked me somehow. However, when I tried it for several times (well, I don’t believe he blocked me), the information came back. I could see his name again.
What’s happening? Could it be that he saw my Gtalk message (I indicated Pidgin shows who blocked me) and he unblock again? I don’t think so?

I have now downloaded Pidgin and plan to use it as you have suggested. However, the greater challenge I offer you is to find a way to detect invisible users on Gmail (G-chat) without having to send them a message to “test” if they receive it or not. There has got to be a way and you seem like the guy who can figure it out. Let us know as you progress on this!

i made sure the person was visible but they are not showing up in pidgn for me to do the right click and see if their info shows up..why is that? everyone else shows up on pidgn except for this person…is it because they no longer have a gmail account? or something like that?

if a friend whom u think has blocked you then please ensure before checking for GetInfo…just unblock that friend from your block list 1st else GetInfo will not get correct information and u might assume that ur friend has blocked you.

I tried to download pidgin but because i have a mac it will not work. does adium work the same way to check if someone has blocked you?
when i used adium, and got the person’s info, i was still able to see the name. does this mean that i am not blocked or it just doesn’t work the same with adium?
What are the chances for false positives and false negatives for using the above procedure? Is it foolproof?
I mean, I am damn sure that someone has not blocked me, but still I don’t get the information. How’s that possible?
Anyways, the if someone is invisible, I have one solution..
First take the chat off the record. And when you want to see if that person is invisible or not, just type something in the off-the-record chat. If it gives you that the chat is not received, the user is offline, but if it does not shows anything, that means the user is hidden and already seen your chat message

I got an issue. I blocked a person on GTalk. But still the person is able to ping me on chat from the same id that I had blocked. Just to confirm, I chkd t blocked lidt again, the person’s id is still there.
How is this possible?
Pls throw some light on this asap.

Blocking any contact means – that blocked person will not be able to see when you are online. For him, you will always be offline. Right?
But he can ping you anytime without knowing that you are actually online. Just don’t reply to his messages other wise he will come to know that either you are pretending to be offline or you may have blocked him.

Yeah true that the other guy can’t see when I am online and he has does a hit-and-trial. But the fact remains that once a person is blocked, he can’t send messages to the person who blocked him. But in this case, the blocked person is able to send messages. HOW??
From what I understand, there are three possibilities:
1. Either there is some bug in GTalk which the guy is exploiting (which I think is not true else the news of the bug would have been splashed all over the web by now)
2. The guy has planted a trojan on my comp and is exploiting thru that (again not possible. I know my system and it has adequate security.
)
3. Third and the most probable (according to me), there is some kind of Anti-Block s/w which he’s using to do what he’s doing (I hear that people have used such s/ws in the case of Windows Live Msngr earlier but am yet to hear of anything of this sort with regard to GTalk)
So that leaves us at square one.
Any light on this subject would be highly appreciated as this has become more of a puzzle to me now.
